You need a PDF!

Portable Document Format was developed by Software Giant Adobe to be a digital document that could be easily downloaded and read on any computer. Adobe give away the Adobe Acrobat Reader Software for free so that anyone on any computer can read any PDF. Once upon a time you had to buy special software to actually CREATE a PDF but now you can get the brilliant amazing and completely free Open Office software suite and create a PDF Ebook without shelling out a penny. It can,Ebooks Make Money. And This is How to Do It! Articles and should, have security features, links and graphics. And here's a great bonus... Using OpenOffice to create your PDF Ebook is EASY!

Go On, Get OpenOffice!

Open Office is Open source shareware. It's FREE! You can download it for free and use it for free and there are no limitations. It is a real rival to Microsoft Office. (personally I think it's easier to use and has a better menu and toolbar design.) You can download it 24 hours a day, seven days a week from http://www.openoffice.org/

One thing that OpenOffice Writer has that the Microsoft Office Word Processor doesn't have is a clever little red button on the toolbar that will, in a single click, turn your text document into a PDF file. It will take your formatting, your links, text and graphics and incorporate them all into your new Ebook. All you have to do is decide where on your computer to save it! You can upload this file to your server, create a link to it from your webpage and it's ready to be bought and downloaded.

Top Ebook Tips

Fonts Matter

Use Arial. It's one of the easiest fonts to read on screen, readily available on both PCs and Macs, and bundled with most printer software. Your main text should be 12pt – 14pt in size. Smaller text should be in Verdana which was specially designed to be easily read online. Larger text can be in Georgia or Times New Roman, but don't go mad slipping in lots of different fonts and colours, underlining, bolding and italicising... remember the idea is to make the thing easy to read, not to show how clever you are with your word processing programme!

Headers and Footers Look Good

Add Headers and Footers to your document for a more professional look. You only have to type in your text once and it will appear on every page. Put the Title of your Ebook into the Header and copyright information and page numbers into your footer. Use the INSERT Menu to do all this.

Secure your work

You can prevent your Ebook being copied or changed. Instead of clicking on the Red PDF icon on the toolbar to turn your document into a PDF do this instead... Click on FILE on the top menu. Click on EXPORT AS PDF. Along the top menu of tabs find SECURITY on the far right. Click on it. Click in the second white box down where it says Restrict Permissions. You can then enter a password so that only you will be able to make changes to or copy your Ebook. Finally, click on the EXPORT button to save your newly created, and secure, PDF Ebook.
