What are electronic cigarettes?

Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes as they are commonly known are battery operated devices that produce the same effects as that of normal traditional cigarettes. The best part of electronic cigarettes is that they do not produce any side effects and have none of the harmful effects as that of normal tobacco cigarettes.

Different types of cigarettes

An electronic cigarette has three basic components – the filter, atomizer, battery and the cartridges that contain the nicotine vaporized solutions. The manner in which these three components remain packaged results in the differentiation of the electronic cigarettes in to three different categories.

1. One piece electronic cigarettes - These are disposable electronic cigarettes. All the components remain packaged in a single case with a recharged battery that has to be disposed off once used. These electronic cigarettes are not cost effective as they can used only once. These cigarettes are attached with one time activation systems that lights the cigarettes as soon as the switch is put on.
2. Two piece electronic cigarettes - The refill cartridges of these e-cigarettes are also known as cartomizers as the electronic cigarette automizer remains inbuilt within the refill cartridges. The atomizers used have longer life than the one piece electronic cigarettes. They can run for around six to eight weeks. The disadvantage of the atomizer is that it remains sealed tightly and can not be recharged and needs to be disposed off when over.
3. The three piece electronic cigarettes - The best and the most popular e-cigarettes, they have the three basic components separated from each other. This allows the cartridges to be refilled when needed. This is the most versatile of the lot and gives a total personalized smoking effect. They require the minimum amount of maintenance and upkeep.

The disadvantage of this category of electronic cigarette is that the nicotine and the batteries have to be replaced every time their life ends.

Except for the one piece kind the other two have the option of separating the electronic cigarette cartridges and refilling them. The three piece electronic cigarettes are the most popular as they are cost effective and can be used and reused.
