The religion of Judaism is traditionally and culturally very rich. This enriched tradition is seen in the motives used for making Jewish jewelry. Jewish jewelry shows the amalgamation of current fashion and ancient traditions.

Some of the important symbols and scriptures used in Jewish jewelry are as follows-

  1. The Star of David jewelry - One of the most popular symbols recognised by both the Jewish as well as non Jewish people. The Star of David and Hamsa hand have a strong appeal to the people of Judaism. These symbols depict the hand of god. Jewish jewelleries are inscribed with the symbols of the star to bless the people and guide them in their life path.
  2. Hebrew prayers- Hebrew is the most common language of the Jewish people. It is also believed to be the spoken language of God. Hebrew letters come along with past history of the people of Judaism and have a magical appeal. Quotations from the bible are regularly used to seek God’s protection in Jewish jewelry. Mystical Hebrew blessings are also commonly found in Jewish jewelleries. These inscriptions are believed to be virtues of God’s blessing and protection. These ancient letters and symbol are believed to have powers that would help to ward off evil spirits.
  3. Chai jewelry- Judaism places great significance to the importance of life on earth. Every occasion in this religion starts with cheering for life; “Chai” is the Hebrew word for “Life”. The Hebrew word “Chai” also has numerical significance. Chai equals to the number 18 which is a number of spiritual importance in Hebrew.

Many Jewish pendants will have amalgamation of the Jewish symbols and           letters. The letter Chai is often found embedded in the middle of the Star of David.

  1. Numerical- The number eighteen is considered very lucky in Jewish religion. Often medallions and bracelets are found containing eighteen strands of gold and silver.
  2. Coloured threads- The colour red is very popular among the Jewish. Red is believed to ward off evil spirits. This is the reason why pendants and other accessories remain tied with red coloured wool.

Jewish jewelry with these symbols and Jewish blessings embedded in them are a common gift given at the time of Kabbalah in Judaism. Knowing the significance of the occasion it is but natural that a gift wishing good life and luck be bestowed upon the young girls.
