It's so easy to sign up for an affiliate program. But do you know what you need to do as an affiliate? It's not about spending money marketing. It's about setting the foundation that brings success.

Unfortunately,The First Step After Signing up for An Affiliate Program Articles affiliate programs are no different than any other business. And while most everything is taken care of for you, the most important partthe marketing, is up to you. But before you throw away that advertising dollar, you need to build the foundation for your affiliate business. Here are some simple steps you can take before you spend your first dollar:

1.If your program offers a course and in most cases they are free, you should go through the course. It's designed to make you familiar about the program, its products, its directors and its compensation plan.

2.Introduce yourself. Most good programs require you to fill out a profile about yourself, about your history and what you hope your program is going to do for you. It's there to help you set and clarify your goals. Taking a wild shot, like the majority of affiliates, won't move you toward the goal. If you can't be bothered with filling out a profile, your potential affiliates won't want to sign up under you and your sponsor can't help you.

3.Get involved. You're new to the business so you'll need some help. Most affiliate programs have a Q and A page for you to use. Participate in the forums where you can find answers and inspiration. Contact your upline sponsor and introduce yourself. If he doesn't answer, contact his sponsor.

4.The hype of easy money always attracts but doesn't last long once you realize you need to work your affiliate program to get that easy money! Disillusionment turns off the majority of affiliates. While you can make money in a good affiliate program, you need to stay motivated enough to move forward. To keep yourself motivated you should be reading inspirational books and listening to CD's by those who have succeeded. Read books like Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich", Victor Kiam's "Going for It!" Or Og Mandino's "University of Success". Videos on CD include Dennis Waitley's "The Psychology of Winning" and Earl Nightingale's "Lead the Field".

5.Take time to plan. Without a plan, you go nowhere. Set down your goal long-term and short-term. Whether you want to de debt free or just have some extra money for retirement, you won't go anywhere unless you've set down some goals. Talk to your sponsor about what you want and where you want to go. If he won't help you, go up the matrix to find someone is is willing to help you.

6.Any affiliate program is a team effort. To succeed you need to work with your upline and those newbies in your downline. Affiliate programs are designed so that team effort is a NECESSITY if anyone hopes to achieve anything in it. Don't be afraid to ask for help. There is someone who wants to help you succeed. Even if they are several levels above you, they know they can't reach their goals if they don't help someone who is committed to the program.

7.Patience is a virtue in any business. Do you have the patience of Thomas Edison who tried a thousand experiments before he invented the lightbulb? Or Abraham Lincoln who failed several times before he became President of the United States? Riches don't come overnight.

Yes you can make good money from your affiliate program. But you need to lay that foundation before you think of spending that first dollar in advertising. Be realistic. Once you have the foundation in place, you'll be better off than 97% of those affiliates who never make a dollar from any of the programs they sign up for.
