The Government of India has provided full political and economical support and substantial public funds to create and establish India as one of the world’s largest systems of higher education.

The rise of Higher education and India‘s progress in the field of professional Education has been phenomenal Over the last 50 years. These institutions,Establishment of India as a rising Education Hub Articles with the exception of some notable ones have however not been able to maintain the high standards of education and keep up with the pace of developments in the fields especially in knowledge and technology.

 

Over time, financial constraints with increasing and exploding number of enrolments and a very high demand from primary and secondary education has resulted in significant amount of deterioration in the financial support provided by the government.

 

Additionally, above it all is an overall structure of controls with a rigid bureaucratic approach has caused reduction in rate of its development. India has however built up the largest stock of scientists, engineers and technicians on the science and technology side In terms of higher education.

 

The growth of higher education in India has been clearly phenomenal over the recent last period. The growth starting with 1950- 51, when there were only about 263,000 students in all disciplines in 750 colleges affiliated to 30 universities across the whole country. This number has grown up exponentially by 2005 to 11 million students in 17,000 Degree colleges affiliated to 230 universities and non-affiliated university-level institutions.

 

Additionally, there are about 10 million students in over 6500 in vocational institutions. The enrolment is growing at the rate of 5.1 per cent per year. However, among all the Degree students only 5 per cent are enrolled into engineering courses, while an overall 20 per cent in sciences. The demand for professional courses is growing rapidly.

 

Thus, the fact that India is growing rapidly in higher education, can be said to be well established.
