Many people go to college to further their education. Some just go for the experience. There is nothing like college life when living on the campus especially if the college is away from home. One of the best experiences about going to college is living in the dorms. While the dorm room may be small and crowded living in the dorms can help a student get the true college experience.
When living in the dorm the guys and the girls usually have separate floors. Some may be in different buildings. The dorm rooms are small and do not offer a lot of room for personal space. A dorm room can house two or three students. As the students advance in college they may be able to get their own room but it will still be small. Some people choose to live with their friends if they happen to be going to the same college. Many people in the dorms find themselves living with complete strangers. There are some regulations and rules students have to follow while in the dorm. Often they are not permitted to have candles, and smoking is prohibited. For those that are smokers there may be a designated space outside of the building. In the building if a guest is staying over for the night it is best to make sure it is good with the roommate. If it is an unexpected overnight guest the roommates usually work out some kind of system in advance.
A dorm room may include a microwave and that is it. When living on campus many students buy a meal plan. They can go to a separate building and get their meals. The dorm commonly contains enough space for clothing, a computer, two beds, and two desks. That is really about it. What the dorms do have to present to the students is independence.
Staying in the dorms the students can come and go as they please at any time of the day or the night. They can be out as late as they want to and no one will say a word to them. The students can sleep in as late as they want on the weekend. The rules are minimal and mainly in place for safety causes. Living in the dorms offer students their first experience being away from home and living independently.
