Your Baby Can Read Early

There are ways for parents to make sure that your baby can read early. It isn’t that you need to have a book in their hand when they are just months old. 

When you realize that your baby can ready, there is such a sense of accomplishment that you feel as a parent. You realize that you gave your child every opportunity to pick up a much needed skill at an early age. As the parent, you are key to this entire process. So here are a few tips to get your started.

Make Books Available

A house filled with books makes it possible for your baby to read. You want them to have the opportunity from a very young age to be able to touch the books, flip through the books, and even chew on them during the teething phase. From cloth books to hardback and keepsake books, having these all over the house is a good start.
Many times people don’t know what to get children for their birthdays or even what to bring to a baby shower. Books are always the perfect answer. Even if they aren’t sounding out the words or working through phonics, having texts, words, and letters in front of them is important.

Read Out Loud

Several studies suggest that reading aloud to children can improve their own reading as well as test scores and overall intellectual capacity. When they hear the intonation of your voice and see your point to the words. With this example, over time your baby can read earlier than some of his or her peers. They know what types of things the words can create.

Even infants enjoy the sound of your voice. Whether it is the morning newspaper or even a novel that you are reading, they may not understand what you are saying, but they see the action of your reading and they are listening to what you are saying. As a parent, this is just one way that you can give your children the advantage.

Set the Example

If you want to raise readers, be a reader. If your baby can read early there is a pretty good chance that they were able to realize how much of an emphasis you put on the written word. They should see you reading. Whether you have a set time during the day or night or they just see that you always have a book with a bookmark laid out, you want them to see that you find value in this skill. Once again, they are never too young to see you with a book in your hand. If you aren’t reading to them you are reading to yourself and they are taking note.

Be Encouraging

When you see that your baby can read early or you just see them with a book in their hand, be encouraging. When they are a little older you can ask them about what they are reading. When they are younger, ask them about the pictures they are seeing in the book. Act interested in what they are doing. Let them know that you are proud of them for this skill. Mention that you are impressed.
