Autumn Gate-Crashes Another Carnival

Years ago a friend on the last day of the carnival pointed out to me something very interesting and somewhat bleak.

When I was much younger the Notting Hill Carnival was a blast. I would go with a bunch of friends and we would dance the day away. We were totally inhibited. It was a day to try out all the different exotic cooked food the party had to offer. We would drink as much beer as we could without getting too unruly - just tipsy enough to reel off new chat-up lines to young women passing us by who took our fancy. I cannot say I ever met anyone during a carnival that I have stayed in touch with. In fact anything more than a bit of flirtation and the occasional kiss was very rare...

These days unless I have friends visiting from abroad, I would not dream of going to the carnival. Fortunately UK Golf Hotels have been a good distraction for the last few years. If like me you live in the area and want to avoid another long noisy August weekend, look up Blackpool pleasure beach hotels too.

I do not find the floats particularly enchanting. It all seems too rehearsed. I am not taken either by the lines of police men in their sober and stiff uniforms, trying to loosen up and chat to the crowds of revellers. It always feels like you are watching the parade from the outside. The fancy dressed dancers are usually in a world of their own. Some people try to reach the plain they are on, but they mostly get hopelessly intoxicated and leery instead. What really gets me is the weather though.... For some reason, no matter how sunny and hot it is during the day, there is always a familiar chill in the air that weekend which tends to signify the ending of summer...
By around 6.30, the more together party-goers start thinking about heading home to beat the crowd, but what you notice most of all and all of a sudden is the darkness of winter creeping into our days.

This year I am going to miss all of that for sure, I am going to watch football insteadFree Web Content, eat loads of well-cooked food and drink some quality beer in clean pint glasses as opposed to plastic cups.
