This particular one has good video quality, manual controls, comes with a remote control, and a small, comfortable size.  This one has several negative things such as a thin grip strip, no inputs, and no optical image stabilization.

This digital camcorder has a mic and headphone jacks with a straightforward, functional design.  The negative things are poor low-light color and video accuracy and the lens does not focus very closely.

This model has nice lens performance and very good video at the highest quality setting.  The negative things are a poorly designed touch screen menu system, and a short battery life.

Samsung HMX-R10 under $500

This model has above average feature set, which includes slow-motion movie record.  It is also very compact and easy to hold.  This one has several negative things about it.  Some of them are no mic and headphone jacks, lots of noise in the low light video, and no lens protection.

This model has a high resolution, full-motion VGA quality, an 8X digital zoom, and a 2-inch LCD monitor.  This one also comes with a SVP 2GB memory card. 

Canon VIXIA HF S200 Flash Memory HD under $800

This model comes with two memory card slots and delivers video and 8-megapixel photos with lifelike color and incredible detail.  It also has a 3.5 high resolution touch panel LCD and 5.1 channel surround sound.

As you can see, digital camcorders vary in price from under $100 to over $800.  Some are over $1000 but these would probably be used by professionals who video tape special events.  Check different stores before making a purchase.  You could find the one you like for a better price.
