In Vermeer's painting techniques, Discussion about Vermeer's painting style Articles the unique use of light is the most important quality factor in Vermeer’s works. Pearly flashing light in Vermeer’s painting is always admired by people.

Great changes took place in Holland in 17th century. First was “80-year war” and the buds of capitalism, which made Holland have hitherto unknown development. On the one hand, the impact of war and revolution made people abandon the previous ideas and have more free thought. More people were looking for beauty and pleasure out of life. On the other hand, due to the development of capitalism, the people's life was gradually becoming rich, while the nobles tended to decline. Oil paintings were no longer the luxury for the noble, people could also own them. The painters could no longer attach to a noble, but make works according to their preferences; nor pay no attention to social expression of the major subjects, but more to the depiction of details of life in order to cater to the bourgeoisie and the townspeople's aesthetic taste. "Holland small school" will emerge as the times require in this atmosphere. Vermeer was one of the representative painters.

Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) was born in a middle class family in Delph of Holland. At the age of 20, although he inherited the hotel, art broke business and some debts his father left, his family was not rich. The busy business and heavy life burden maybe strongly evoke Vermeer's love and desire for rich, quiet and happy family life. In 1675, 43-year-old Vermeer unfortunately died although he was still in the full vigor of life.

Vermeer was one of the greatest painters in Holland, but had been forgotten for two centuries. And later he was "found". Most biographers in the 18th centuries had ignored Vermeer. By 19th century, people paying attention to Vermeer were obviously increasing. Since 20th century, more people were studying Vermeer. Vermeer's works were mostly genre paintings basically based on the public daily life. Vermeer's painting was warm, comfortable and quiet, giving a solemn feeling and fully demonstrating the Holland citizens’ preferences for clean environment and elegant and comfortable atmosphere. Vermeer artistic style had distinctive characteristics with solid and delicate structure, clear color harmony, especially well at the performance of the indoor light and sense of space. Vermeer's paintings gave a person a kind of authenticity, making people feel a real sense of faith in addition to the truth of daily life. Vermeer's painting light line was not too much, but gave a person with bright feeling. This simple emotion in this painting played a role in purifying people's hearts.

Vermeer’s painting techniques

One, unique light line  Vermeer's style of painting used relatively concentrating way projected onto the object depicted. Vermeer often used natural light, so the figures or still life pictures of the light will be relatively cold. This kind of natural light is close to life with no distance to give people a very close feeling. Natural light is to make the work more close to the reality, letting people affectionately feel the simple real life.

Two, poetic sense in the painting   Vermeer's paintings are always penetrating a pure, simple and poetic feeling, and a mysterious sense. Vermeer had no interest in the interesting circumstances, but to explore the poetic scenes from the ordinary life. Vermeer obviously did not have Rembrandt's strength and was as vigorous and unrestrained as Hales, but could touch people’s hearts with simple sincere lyrics. This native painter in Delph who probably never left the country was almost confined to the everyday people and things. Most of the content was depicting one or two female home working in a warm and comfortable indoor, leisure or work. The painting appeared a quiet and harmonious atmosphere of life and a pleasurable occupation satisfaction. This life style in Vermeer’s art career reflected the public aesthetic interest of the citizens of Holland. If the HALS style was compared to the roundhouse drumming and passion of northwestern people, then Vermeer's art was like blowing Piccolo, revealing the subtle beauty of Jiangnan girl, giving a person with the infinite happy daydream.

The great artist of Holland Vermeer closely associated his own feeling and the real life.  To discover the extraordinary things in the ordinary life, to find the beauty of power and beauty in plain in itself; with the most outstanding painting language to depict a true in real life, to depict the hard-working and kind-hearted extraordinary ordinary people, the personality promotion is the highest human nature and show people to praise.
