History of the Game Bingo

The most beloved gambling game has a history that dates back to 16th century Italy where the lottery game Lo Giuoco del Lotto d’Italia was introduced.

Back in the 18th century, the original Italian lotto game was introduced to France. Historical evidence shows that a game called Let Lotto was popular among the French high society who used to play the game in parties and social gatherings.

Le Lotto was played with special cards having three rows and nine columns. Each of the three columns has 10 numbers, and each column has five random numbers and four blank spaces in it. The game also has a caller who announces the number, and each player has different lotto cards where they mark it as well.

It was only in the 19th century when the game took Europe by storm, and even children enjoyed it because of the simplicity and fun factor of the game. In the 1850s, there were several educational lotto games that entered the German toy market aimed to teach children to spell words, how to multiply and more.

Beano was a similar version of the lotto game in Europe and was very popular in the US. In this game, players would place beans on their cards to mark the called out number. The first player to complete a row in his card must yell out “BEANO!”

It was Edwin S. Lowe who, after buying the Beano game package, held several Beano friendly games in his New York home. One night in his Beano party, a stuttering girl shouted “Bingo” instead of ”Beano,” and that made Lowe start a new game called Bingo. From then on, people loved the game of Bingo and Online Bingo and they even use it to raise funds!
