The Bingo Business

Online bingo sites are a part of a competitive industry. This articles looks at the site offers from this perspective.

Online bingo provides hour upon hour of entertainment for millions of people from all over the world.  The player can experience the excitement and entertainment of online play from the comfort of her own home.  All she requires is a personal computer with a high speed Internet hook up and membership in an online playing site.  Then she can be a member of the bingo community and take part in all of the exciting activities and games at the site.

The online bingo business began in 1996 when the first Internet bingo site was launched.  Now there are hundreds of playing sites with new sites being launched every month, making the competitive industry more competitive for all market participants.  Online bingo establishments are for profit forms of business and they have the same concerns as other businesses do - revenues and costs, profits and losses, size of active customer base and satisfaction, just to name a few.

Due to the competitive nature of the industry, sites must compete with one another for customers.  The site needs to see an increase in its active customer base in order to increase revenues and profits.  The site operator needs to retain his existing active customers while attracting new customers to the business.  This is one of the reasons for the prize and bonus structures, the loyalty program, and the various promotions the site runs.  All of these programs represent a cost to the business, but they also serve the site operator's goal of growing the active customer base and generating revenues.  Revenues per customer are so small due to the nature of the industry, that the site operator needs a large number of customers to be successful.

Competition can take many forms and the site offerings represent only one form.  The most obvious form of competition is advertising.  The site operator can place adverts in the various media like television, radio, newspapers, posters, etc, where it is legally permissive.  In the United Kingdom, the site's licensing jurisdiction must be included on the government's White List and the site's adverts must conform to government standards.  This kind of advertising promotes the brand name and reaches a large segment of the population and drives traffic to the website, which must appear attractive enough to induce the visitor to join.
