The Clint Eastwood Blockbuster Film - Gran TorinoAt 78 years old, Clint Eastwood has achieved what many others only dream about. He is best known as Dirty Harry, but in his latest blockbuster, Gran Torino, Eastwood gives the performance of a lifetime. Gran Torino is a moving story about the relationship between Walt Kowalski (Eastwood), who is a retired military veteran who takes no nonsense and is looking to live out the rest of his widowed days in peace, and Thao (played by newcomer Bee Vang), his next door neighbor that steals his Gran Torino as part of a gang initiation. Thao then follows Walt and his ways in an attempt to learn how to become a real man and pay back his debt. They begin to learn lessons from each other along the way and Walt becomes more tolerant of the cultural differences as Thao becomes increasingly responsible for his actions. Although it sounds like your basic foes to friends story the acting is incredible and Eastwood give a very serious and unintentionally humorous performance. The casting was done in a interesting way, as the casted a headliner (Eastwood) to work with amateurs, including a group of real gang members. This truly adds to the appeal of the film and it was a pleasure to see Eastwood play a character of his own age, instead of the younger roles he is usually cast in. Despite the low budget and filming in between Eastwood's filming of the Changeling, it was an impressive and notable performance by all. Out of all Eastwood film Gran Torino is honestly my favorite, thus far. The complex , powerful and tender storyline shows us a side of the actor that no one has seen before.
