Basic Fire Safety Rules

Ignoring one of the biggest threats to your property is not just a careless thing to do, but is also something that might actively harm you. To keep yourself and your property safely out of harm’s way, you should always insist on fire safety.

A lot of people are unaware of this particular norm; but now you can easily understand what constitutes of fire safety and how any kind of emergency is speedily averted. A huge amount of money is spent every year by the government on educating people about fire and safety, and you should be aware of a few basic rules which should never go out of your mind while dealing with this.

1.    Always keep something around the house which would prevent fire. This can be anything from a bucket full of sand or water to a set of fire extinguishers which are maintained and checked every two months or so, and changed after a period of two years. This is a standard procedure with any kind of extinguisher, and you should check the panel of date of manufacture to find out the exact date, and use accordingly.

2.    Keep yourself alert by installing a smoke alarm. If there is any case of fire threat, it can be easily caught. Keep them in areas which are prone to catch fire first, for example in the kitchen, which is a prime source of fire. You should also maintain a proper ventilation process, so that there are no chances of a false alarm. The smoke alarms should be regularly maintained and properly checked according to the instructions from your local fire department.

3.    Learn the fire drill. This would help save you a lot of unnecessary hassle. Fire drill classes are conducted in accordance with your local fire brigade, so you can get in touch with one of the members who might know, and work accordingly. Doing the drill would actually make you understand what to do and what to avoid during a fire and would help you save not only yourself but others as well.

4.    Maintain a list of building safety rules, if you own or maintain a building. This way, the inhabitants would be aware of potential hazards, and stay out of the way of harm, helping you maintain your building properly.
