Whether you have a hefty budget for the project or just want to re-purpose things that you already have, there is a way to make sure that each one comes out looking great.

Little Girl's Nursery

When kids are really small, adults are the only ones concerned with the home windows. This gives you a lot of freedom to do what you want and get creative without needing anyone else's approval. Begin with deciding on the type of blinds that you are interested in. You can choose from a variety of materials and styles for the blinds. If you aren't sure what you want, pick a white or natural color. As you change around the theme or colors, the blinds will still match. Or, choose a cute color to match the paint or bedding if you have the theme and colors for the room picked out.

Many times, curtains will be included with the bedding set for infants. This route is a little easier, but can sometimes be expensive. You can also go with solid color curtains and look for other ways to create detail. If you are creating a nursery fit for a princess, you can take some of the beautiful dresses that she has, but may not quite fit. Place them on hangars, and use them as a valance along the top of the home windows. If there is a lot of room in between, use dolls or other princess accessories like crowns, hats, or tiaras to go between.

Little Boy's Nursery

No matter what the theme or color scheme, this room is going to have some type of adventure feeling to it. In the same way, you can choose to go safe and pick the matching curtains that match the bedding etc., or you can choose to to take on the challenge and create a one of a kind treatment. For boys, sometimes more is less. Consider tossing the idea of curtains to look for a more interesting idea.

Using wood and plywood, create a covering that will set over just the top portion of the home windows. Think about making a box, but leaving off the last piece of wood. You will have a rectangular area to work with. It is a good idea to measure, but because you are making it yourself, there is no right or wrong to the width or height of the covering. Using padding from a fabric store, cover the front portion that will face out and be seen by people entering the room. Cover it with a fabric that fits with the nursery's feel and use a staple gun to secure it tightly.

From here, you can add buttons, little race cars, or even stuffed animals by attaching them to the outside surface. Going with an animal or safari theme? Attach the stuffed animals to behind the covering so that just their top halves are peeking out the top. It adds interest and imagination to the room and gives you a chance to show off the baby's new room. Changing something about the home windows can completely update and personalize any space in your house.
