Some of the factors cannot be changes, like the age of a driver. However, there are several external factors which can be changed for better output.

1)    Vehicle's make, model and the year of manufacturing play a major role in determining the cost of insurance premiums. The high end cars are likely to attract higher insurance rates than the lower end cars. The reason behind this is the cost for the replacement of a high end car is much more than the lower end car. As a result, the rate of auto insurance increases. However, the owner is the person who decides which car he can afford and accordingly the insurance policy gets chosen.

A car equipped with numerous safety devices such as airbags, seat belts, anti- lock brakes and airbags will avail the owner to go for less expensive insurance policies. A car alarm is the indication that the chances of theft of the car are less. Hence, the insurance company won't have to worry about the huge cost that must be paid to the insured person if a theft occurs. Thus, reduction of the risk factor and also reduces the cost of insurance.

3)    One should always try to compare prices both in real markets and online. The online rates of the insurance policies are comparatively less than their real life counterparts. Also, not all the insurance companies pay similar amount for the similar type of coverage. Hence a little bit of research can help to a maximum extent.

4)    Location of the car owner is another factor affecting the rates of auto insurance. This is because the chances of accidents and in turn damages of the car are less in the rural areas as compared to the crowded city areas.
