How to Make a Flood Claim on Home Insurance

Flooding during the summer of 2006, has saddled the insurance industry in the United Kingdom with a huge one billion pounds Bill claims. More bad weather pushed that number even higher.

A twenty four hours emergency hotline is available to customers by most major insurers, to be used if they are flooded. You must make a call to this number as urgently to know how you make your request. A useful site, which is managed by the “Association of British Insurers”, gives a list of hotlines run by major home insurance companies.

What is the next thing to do? - Try to follow these steps; they will act as a good guide to help make your application successful.

Water levels must be marked on the walls as a reference & you have to keep a photographic record or video of all flood damage. Emergency repairs can be done to stop matters getting worse. You must keep all receipts to support your request. It is prudent to obtain professional advice before proceeding with extensive repairs.

The extent of repair may be so large that you may have to leave your home. You will find that the cost of alternative accommodation up to a specific limit will be paid by the insurer. Your insurance company may want to contact you after you left your house, so leave a phone number to contact.

.
Verifying the identity of a visitor – there’re precautions to take if a visitor says they correspond to the Water Board. Verify their identity card photograph, ensuring that their photograph is resembles them & that the card is current dated. If you have any doubt, if ever, call the Water Board to ensure they are genuine, while they remain outside. If you’ve any reason to suppose that the appellant is wrong, tell them to leave & contact the police immediately. Never leave the door open while you use the phone to retrieve or call the police.

Filing a complaint - If you have to complain about how your claim is processed by your insurance adjuster or home insurance company, you must write or call your insurer, keeping track of what you said or wrote .The facts of the complaints procedure of your insurer can be found in your insurance policy.

You can contact the Financial Ombudsman Service if your problem is not resolved acceptably, & they’ll investigatePsychology Articles, assuming that the complaint falls within their terms of reference.
