Pennsylvania health insurance companies offer many affordable plans to Pennsylvania consumers. The top health insurance companies such as Capital Blue Cross, Highmark, IBX, Aetna and UnitedHealthCare feature low cost plans.

Pennsylvania health insurance companies offer individual and family plans on the top website to Pennsylvania residents. Rates are typically quite affordable compared to many surrounding states such as New Jersey,Pennsylvania Health Insurance Companies Articles New York and Delaware. Some of the major Pennsylvania health insurance companies are Aetna, UnitedHealthCare, Independence Blue Cross, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Capital Blue Cross, HealthAmerica, Assurant and Celtic.

Most companies offer a wide variety of insurance plans, including comprehensive, catastrophic and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Short-term plans are also popular if the need for coverage is temporary (less than 12 months). These types of policies are a perfect fit for persons that are unemployed, a graduating student, between jobs, a seasonal worker or waiting to become eligible for Medicare. Pennsylvania short-term coverage features short applications and policies are typically approved within a few days.

UnitedHealthCare and Aetna are two of the nation’s largest insurers and offer coverage throughout the entire state. Their Network is extensive with many physicians, hospitals and medical facilities.

 UnitedHealthcare offers dozens of deductible and coinsurance options for their Pennsylvania comprehensive plans as well as an extensive portfolio of short-term plans. Aetna’s HSA rates are very competitive and their HMO plans are available in most areas of the state. Aetna also features maternity coverage in their HMO plans along with lower out-of-pocket costs on most claims.

Independence Blue Cross (IBX) offers health care coverage in the Philadelphia area and Southeastern Pennsylvania. They are the largest provider in that area with more than 2.4 million policyholders. The Keystone Health Plan East HMO is a comprehensive policy that features competitive premiums with a wide selection of benefit options. Six different HMO plans are available (Three HMO Deductible & Three HMO Copay).

IBX also offers six different individual PPO policies, including two HSA-eligible plans with $3,000 and $5,000 deductible options. The PPO plans feature copays on most office visits and prescriptions with deductibles on most major medical claims. Premiums are quite affordable for the higher-deductible plans.

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is one of the larger Pennsylvania health insurance companies and serves the 29 counties of Western Pennsylvania. Highmark’s two PPO plans (DirectBlue & PPOBlue) are affordable health care options that offer comprehensive coverage with many deductible choices.

DirectBlue is slightly more expensive but offers cost-saving deductible options, and typically will feature lower out of pocket expenses. PPOBlue allows you to select higher deductibles and take advantage of a Health Savings Account. The combination of rich preventive benefits, tax savings and comprehensive coverage helps make this plan one of the most popular policies in the Pittsburgh area.

Central Pennsylvania health insurance plans are available from all of the major companies including Capital Blue Cross. The  PersonalBlue PPO plan is Capital Blue Cross’ major individual health insurance plan. Deductibles from $0 to $2,500 are available with an optional prescription drug coverage rider. Most benefits, such as office visits, inpatient and outpatient hospital services and hospital room charges are covered and subject to a deductible. However, preventive benefits, urgent care and emergency care are not subject to a deductible.
