You may well have noticed that solar panels have been appearing on more and more homes. Indeed, as I look across the rooftops from my own office window, I can see that a number of new installations are in place.

So how do we explain this sudden surge in demand? You may feel that it reflects the fact that the people of the UK are taking more of an interest in the environment and are looking to reduce their use of coal,Solar Energy Could Save You Money Articles gas and oil. Is it really true that there is this increasing desire to help the wider environment?

As with so many things in life, it soon becomes clear that the first explanation is rather too simplistic. It certainly can be said that environmental issues do attract a lot of coverage these days. Indeed, a whole range of topics are starting to be discussed on television shows and within newspapers.

What is becoming clear is that there is greater awareness surrounding environmental issues and there may also be heightened levels of concern. In some cases, people may be thinking about future generations. What sort of planet will we leave behind for our own children? It's easy to see how such concerns could bring about a change in behaviour.

But many experts also suggest that people tend to act more quickly, if they have some sort of financial inducement for doing so. In other words, we may see financial gain as being a motivating factor when taking a decision. This is certainly something that many people within the UK renewables sector seem to agree with.

It certainly would help to explain the increasing presence of solar panels. People are being encouraged to install them, with the promise that they can actually earn money over time. What can be seen is that this completely changes the purchasing and installation decision.

If you'd considered installing solar panels in the past, then you may well have been thinking about the high costs that were involved. It may have been nice to think that you could contribute to environmental improvements, but it may not have been terribly realistic.

This thinking has now been altered by the realisation that solar panel installation should not be thought of as being an expense. Instead, it can be viewed as being an investment that will pay dividends over time.

This leads us to see that solar energy isn't just a choice for those who are worried about the future of the planet. It's a realistic option for those who wish to make a little extra money.
