What Exactly is a Rehabilitation Center?

To know what exactly a rehabilitation center is, first we should know what the word Rehabilitation means. Rehabilitation is a method to recover from any type of injury, illness, addiction or a disease to a normal state where an individual feels fit and strong.

So now a Rehabilitation Center is a place which provides rehabilitation services and helps people recover from their illnesses or addictions. These centers can include clinics, hospitals, nursing homes or some private centers. The therapists who works in rehab centers can even make home visits if the patient feels uncomfortable joining he rehab center. Choosing the appropriate type of therapy and therapist is always advised so that the patient recovers in minimum time.

The major purpose of visiting a rehabilitation center is to restore the patient’s physical and mental strength and energy levels which were lost before coming to the rehab center.
It mainly includes helping the patient to regain the loses that cannot be easily cured medically.

There are various therapies and treatments that are carried out in a rehab center where the main types of activities carried out are physical therapy and mental therapy. Each activity mainly depends on the individual patient's needs and can include one or more types of therapy. Active participation of the patient’s family members is often involved in the patient's rehabilitation program so that the patient does not feel lonely.

Physical therapy helps the patient to recover from any type of disorder or addiction by the use of prescribed drugs in limited quantities, massages, exercises, and other methods. This therapy basically helps to relieve pain, improve patient’s physical strength and improving the body stamina and resistance. The exact duration of the physical therapy program mainly depends on the injury/illness being treated and the patient's response to therapy. Exercise is the most widely used and best known type of physical therapy.

Mental therapy helps the patient to regain the ability for thinking correct, being mentally strong and doing normal day to day tasks with ease. This is mainly done by motivating the patient in various sessions and making him/her believe that the addiction can be removed. The only thing that matters the most is the strong will to overcome the urges. The patient's home environment should be modified accordingly thus giving him a place like a rehab center even after patient leaves the rehab. The duration of this therapy program again depends on the levels of the addiction or the illness being treated and the patient's response to therapy.
