Is The HCG Diet Right For You? Learn How The Diet Works To Help You Lose Weight Fast
The HCG diet is a weight loss plan that uses chemical injections and a very low calorie diet to trigger quick weight loss.
What Is HCG?
HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is found in the human body during pregnancy. It’s only function during pregnancy is to derive nutrients from your stored fat and deliver it to the baby.
The HCG Diet
To treat obesity, a small amount of HCG is given in injection form for 40 days. During the course of the HCG injections, patients are put on a low calorie diet of lean meats, fruits and vegetables. When HCG is introduced to the body, abnormally stored fat is mobilized and is utilized for energy, not affecting the structural fats that protect our vital organs.
The body then burns 3500-4000 calories per day, which allows patients to enjoy a daily weight loss of 1-3 pounds. While on the HCG diet, patients also report sounder sleep and more energy.
Why A Low Calorie Diet Works
Most people get scared at the thought of a very low calorie diet at first, but the HCG works with the brain to suppress your appetite. Trying a low calorie diet without the use of the HCG would lead to insomnia, lethargy, headaches, loss of clarity, severe fatigue, loss of muscle mass and beyond.
After Initial Weight Loss
After phase one of our HCG Protocol, patients are moved to phase two, the maintenance program.
During phase two, the calorie intake gets bumped to a 1200 calorie per day diet for women and 1400 calories per day for men, as they no longer receive HCG hormone injections. The foods eaten are still lean meats fruits and vegetables.
Other foods are slowly introduced back into the diet that were not present during phase one, and this is when the biggest benefit of the diet takes place. The HCG regulates the hypothalamus gland which is located in the brain, and the HCG boosts the metabolism which is your body’s mechanism for burning fat at rest.
The HCG diet should ALWAYS be a medically supervised program; patients undergo blood work, and they are seen on a weekly basis to monitor the program. Many clinics offer an HCG diet on their menu of services, but they do not specialize in the HCG diet, so it's important to thoroughly research potential providers.
