Residential Care Home

The baby boomer generation has presented the world many sets of challenges that it has never had to face.  The jump in population has had its good points and bad points.  Now that the baby boomers are aging they have presented a whole new light to the needs of the elderly.

Computer Technology ArticlesNot only are there way more seniors in the world but their needs are much more diverse. The increased need for diversity in dealing with our growing elderly population has given rise to the residential care home.

It is important to note that this is not a nursing home.  A nursing home is designed for elderly that can no longer tend to their own needs.  The level of incapacity is often varied in a nursing home however all the residents are incapacitated to the point that they are not able to live on their own.  The problem with this concept is that there are many seniors that may need some assistance but they are far from incapacitated.

A nursing facility is more supervision than is needed for many of today’s seniors.  The problem with this is the fact that every resident must pay for the costs to have a higher level of care whether they need it or not.  These facilities are expensive as is and there is no need to pay for more care than you are getting or that you need.  Pride is another big factor as to why nursing homes have become unpopular with today’s seniors.  It is a huge transition to give up your independence to the rigors of a nursing facility.  This transition is even more difficult when only a little assistance is needed.

The solution to this dilemma is a residential care home.  These facilities are staffed with all the same healthcare professionals just not as many.  Many of these types of residences have units or individual apartments instead of one hospital type structure with individual rooms.  These residences are so popular because the care provided is flexible and can be customized to the needs of the individual.  The assistants that work in the residents can help with a variety of duties from advanced nursing to light duty maintenance.

This type of care lets a senior citizen retain as much of their independence as they can.  This maintained freedom is great for keeping the spirit young and happy.  It allows for the golden years to stay golden even longer.
