Strength Training Will Increase the Size of Your Metabolic Engine

Perhaps the most damaging as well as the most understood concept in exercise today among the general public, researchers and fitness centers is the confusion over what proper exercise actually is and what is needed in a weight loss program.

Along with modern technology continuing to make manual work a thing of the past the media and ill informed so called exercise experts have for years been inappropriately lowering the standards of exercise. People are being misled into believing all they need to do is find an activity they enjoy, and they should have "fun" doing it.

How could we humans have become so lazy, kidding ourselves that activity such as walking or using little pink dumbbells is all that is needed to comply with the definition of exercise? How do we think we could possibly stay of normal weight or avoid the health risks with so little activity?

A proper exercise program will change the fat/muscle ratio (body composition) of the body over a period of time. Yes, and it will take some effect to make these changes. For many people this ability to exert a bit of effort is a skill they have never acquired having never experienced physical work of any kind. After all how much effort goes into watching TVComputer Technology Articles, playing video games or moving a computer mouse?

With two thirds of the population overweight or obese the World Health Organization says this is the biggest unrecognized health problem in the world. This ticking time bomb is associated with a large number of life threatening diseases with the impact on health tending to come many years later in a persons life.

An exercise program that includes at least 60% strength training must be performed with sufficient intensity to stimulate the hormones that are necessary to bring about body composition changes that will lead to weight loss and a reduction in the health risks.

No one expects a beginner to exercise at a high level of intensity but the idea is to start off slowly and add to it until a decent effort can be put into it. This little bit of effort is only for very brief periods of time usually only a few seconds and is easily tolerated by all ages. This is what will be the difference from getting no results to fantastic results.

These skills need to be learned preferably under the guidance of an experienced fitness professional. It may cost a few dollars to get this guidance but look at it as an investment. What better way could you spend your money? Remind yourself of the cost if you don't do it not only in money terms but in your health.

The idea is to increase the size and fuel consumption of your metabolic engine and this is what will bring about weight loss. By doing this you will be burning more calories than you are right now every minute of the day even when sleeping and this is what will chew into those stored depots of body fat.

If you choose to add recreational types of activity into your life as well this all contributes to leading a more active lifestyle. But keep in mind that an active lifestyle can never replace the need for a properly structured exercise program. You will be very disappointed in your results if you expect weight loss and other health benefits from anything less.

The new methods of exercise for metabolic effect are an effective technique to combat obesity and ensure weight loss that will benefit millions of people in the future. Be among the first to try it and reap the benefits for yourself.
