Houdini? No it’s Hoodia Gordonii.
Hoodia Gordonii, a succulent plant thatresembles the cactus, which is found in the deserts of South Africa, Namibia and Angola.  It is under the family of  Apocynaceae and thesubfamily of Asclepiadoideae.  The plant grows for about 1 meter and takes 15-20 years to reach maturity producing pale purple flowers which smelled like rotten meat. It has already been known for thousands of years for its medicinal benefits by the San Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert. They claimed that when eating the said plant, it stopsoff their hungriness and quenches their thirsts giving them the enough energy for a day’s activity.
How does this desert plant works?
Hoodia Gordonii, is the only actual specie of Hoodia that contains the compound molecule, p57, that overpowers hunger and thirst. The South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, in collaboration with the British company Phytopharm, have isolated what they believe to be an active ingredient found in hoodia gordonii, named P57 The said molecule, which directly attacks the hypothalamus, a portion of the brain that is responsible for hunger and thirsts, causing an alteration in appetite. The p57 mimics the signal of causing your blood-sugar levels to rise causing a feeling of being full. It is purely organic, non-synthetic and a non-stimulant.
Hoodia Gordiniiis sold in diet pill forms, but it is somehow suggested that taking in the fresh plant even in amazingly small amounts would quickly take its effects. The public should also be aware of the imitations that are widely sold in the markets.
