How To Tip Your Pizza Delivery Driver

Do you know how much to tip pizza delivery drivers? This article explains why we have to tip them and how much is generally considered a good, standard amount.

Pizza delivery in the United States is extremely popular. It started out with Domino's but now every place offers free delivery. This makes it nice and convenient for you, especially when the weather's bad or you've got a house full of kids.

But you do know that you're supposed to tip, right? Shockingly, lots of people don't know this. They also don't know how much to tip. The fact is that pizza delivery drivers depend on that tip. It's a major part of their pay and without it they get almost nothing. This is not to mention the wear and tear on their vehicles and gas charges, which they must pay by themselves.

Pizza delivery drivers also face all kinds of hazards and dangers. Statistically, they're the third most likely occupation to be murdered behind police officers and taxi drivers. Your tip makes it all worthwhile and also tells them "thank you" for the hard work that they do.

How Much To Tip

Tipping for pizza delivery is just like tipping in a restaurant. The standard is basically 15% with a minimum of $2. An easy way to calculate this is to add a tenth of the charge plus half of that. For example, if your order is $20, one tenth would be $2. Half of that is $1, so the total is $23 including tip. The $2 minimum is set because it's not worth it to them for any less than that to drive to your house. You should also not bother giving them change; round to the nearest dollar.

More Or Less

There might be times when you want to increase the tip to 20%. Some people do this because it's simply easier to calculate and it only ends up being a couple of dollars anyway. Plus, it makes the driver happy.

You might consider tipping 20% if:

-The service is exceptionally good or more than you expected.

-They deliver the pies really fast.

-The driver's nice and friendly.

-You plan to order a lot from the place in the future and want them to remember you.

-The weather's bad and you want to give them a little extra for their trouble.

On the other hand, you might want to decrease the tip to 10% if the service is really bad, they screw something up, or it takes them much longer than they said it would take. You should only tip $1 or $0 if it's just terrible and you'll never order there again.

Pizza delivery drivers are like waiters and you need to tip them. HoweverBusiness Management Articles, they have a harder time than waiters. They have to drive in all kinds of weather and face potential danger to deliver hot pies. Give your driver a nice tip to let them know you appreciate it.
