Live Cooking Competition Iron Chef America

‘Iron Chef America’ is a live cooking competition show which is telecasted on the Food Network in America. This show is actually taken from the original Japanese show called ‘Iron Chef’ which was aired on Fuji Television in Japan. The show was aired initially from October 10th 1993 until September 24th 1999 in Japan.

‘Iron Chef America’ show followed the original format of the Japanese show ‘Iron Chef’. Here they had four chefs who were specialized in different type of cuisine. Every week a challenging chef would compete against the Iron Chef in the ‘Kitchen Stadium’. In every competition there is a main ingredient given to the challengers from which they have to prepare 5 dishes. The main ingredient was chosen by the Chairman of the show ‘Kaga’.

The ‘Kitchen Stadium’ is ruled by the chairman Takeshi Kaga’s nephew played by martial arts expert Mark Dacascos. The relation of nephew and uncle is not the original one. The show reporters Alton Brown with Kevin Brauch make the show even more interesting with their comments and live show witty commentary.

When ‘Iron Chef America’ started to be aired in American on the food network they started the first series with Chefs Hiroyuki Sakai and Masaharu Morimoto to connect the two shows from Japan with the show in New York. The Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto is the chef from the original series ‘Iron Chef’ in Japan. He specializes in Japanese cuisine.

The other Iron Chefs in the  Iron Chef America  are Mario Barali who specializes in Japanese cuisine. Next is Cat Cora who specializes in Greek and Aegean cuisines. Bobby Flay specializes in Southwestern cuisine. Each Chef follows a dress code in this show, they all wear Denim Jackets. The entire Chef has selected their own color for the Denim Jackets. They also wear a flag tag on their shoulder which represents the country from where they come.

Each of the chefs who are contesting each other, the challenger and the Iron Chef are allowed to have two assistant chefs to help them prepare their winning dish during the competition. Each chef is required to prepare 5 dishes from the main ingredient that has been selected for that show and present it to the judge for the final decision.

A very exciting show which keeps you hooked to your television for the entire hour of the show.
