Pizza In Exotic Ways

There is more than pizza to pepperoni and cheese. Here are some more exotic variations.

There is no reason to argue the point. People love pizza. Whether by the slice or by the pie one would be hard pressed to find a person who did not enjoy this food to some extent. In America, in fact, we consume a whopping 23 pounds of the cheesy treat per person a year. That is a lot! The fact is we tend to stick with our old stand-bys including, pepperoni, cheese, Hawaiian; however, there is a whole bunch of exotic and fun recipes to experiment with.

The first and for many most common way to branch out is with the barbecued chicken pizza. It has, as the name implies, strips of barbecued chicken on top of barbecue sauce in lieu of marinara. It also has grilled or caramelized onions and occasionally mushrooms. It is a tangy and delicious treat. Try it at the next picnic or barbecue.

Another fun deviation from your standard fare is the taco pizza. This has ground beef, shredded cheddar cheese, and lettuce. It is often covered with salsa and sometimes instead of sauce it has a base layer of refried beans. It is a great choice for parties and sporting events.

To take a little bit of a twist on an old favorite try margherita style instead of plain cheese. This is similar to the cheese except it has slices of fresh tomato and basil leaves. In fact this was the very first kind of pizza and is named in honor of the Neapolitan queen to whom it was presented. It is a delicious and different way of enjoying your pie and it tastes incredibly fresh and rich.

Other healthy options include a basic basil and olive oil and garlic style. This is more of a garlic bread sort of served in slices. It is delicious and is often eaten as a light snack.
One of the less common toppings, but definitely popular among fans is seafood. Often this makes people think of anchoviesFeature Articles, but there are a lot of other choices too. In Connecticut they put clams on their pie. For some the preference is for crayfish or lobster. There are also a lot of people ordering up shrimp.

There are even ways to get dessert. Often the dough and crust are sweeter and less savory. Instead of cheese there is frosting or chocolate sauce. Frequently one will find a style similar to a cinnamon roll. There are also dessert slices with ice cream served on top of them. They are the perfect end to a pizza dinner and are sure to satisfy.
