If you are thinking that the world is divided into men and women,Popular Coffee Beans from Around the Globe Articles then you are wrong. The world is divided into those who like coffee and those who like tea. Coffee drinkers like the rush they get after drinking the brew. If you are working through the night, it helps you stay awake. If you are in a pub, you can probably get a coffee drink to break the ice with your new friend. It is stimulant as well as a social lubricant. However, have you ever wondered about the humble origins of this exceptional beverage? Did you know that the best coffee beans come of the Arabica tree that grows at an altitude above 6000 feet? Did you know that it takes the Arabica tree more than five years for its first yield?

A little about how coffee is produced: Coffee beans are picked by hand from the Arabica tree. Each tree produces about two pounds of coffee every year. The pods are plucked only after turning dark brown. After that, they are picked,  roasted and stored immediately to retain the aroma. Before becoming ready for plucking, the Arabica tree bears blossoms which eventually give way to beans. The beans change from yellow to red and finally dark brown. Arabica beans are popular because of its mild aroma and taste. They account for more than 80% of the world’s coffee consumption.

The lesser known Robusta bean grows in lower altitudes. Robusta beans are easier to grow and are used as a cheaper alternative to Arabica. They can be used as a base in Espresso coffee to give that rich, creamy taste. It is less expensive and disease resistant. These beans are collected and roasted before being exported to factories around the world which specialize in roasting and storing.

Roasted beans fall into the following categories:
•    American Roast: These beans are moderately roasted until they release a moderately strong flavour.

•    French Roast: Want to get high on caffeine? Get French Roast. This coffee is roasted till the coffee bean gets a deep brown colour. The resultant coffee is rich in taste.

•    Italian Roast: Espresso! Yup! This is the bean that is used in the world’s favourite drink.

•    Decaffeinated Coffee: This type of coffee is for people who do not want too much caffeine in their drink. The caffeine is removed with the help of a chemical solvent that dissolves when roasting.

Coffee has evolved as one of the world’s favourite drink. The sheer range of coffee beans and drinks available is simply amazing. No wonder people will always have time for coffee!
