Herbs and vegetables
If you have the urge to grow something that is not only for aesthetic purposes, then herbs are a great way to start as fresh herbs give a lot more flavour in home cooking compared to the dried variety. They are easy to come by at garden shops, markets and supermarkets and grow well in plant pots. Most do like being outside, so if you have a balcony it is better if you leave them outside, otherwise keeping them by a kitchen window is also fine. Thankfully living in an apartment does not mean you are restricted to only growing herbs in a small space. Fruit and vegetables like tomatoes, strawberries and lettuce can also be grown if they in the right sized pot and have enough sunlight, so if you are trying this out for the first time it is advisable to start planting in spring when the weather is more suitable. There is always a sense of satisfaction growing your own crops and it can help to cut costs on the food bill, which is always good seeing as the cost of food in the city can be much higher.
