During the summer months,Tips to Keep Your Yard Free of Mosquitoes This Summer Articles you will likely want to spend plenty of time outside.  However, you do not want to be bothered by mosquitoes while you are out there, do you?  Not only can they lead to itchy bites, but they can transmit diseases as well.

As far as mosquitoes go, you do not want to just sit back and wait for a problem to develop.  It is best to be proactive and keep their numbers down from the very beginning.  Some are capable of surviving the winter months, and will be the ones doing most of the breeding when the weather warms a bit.  Try to kill these initial pests, and you will have less of a problem on your hands by the time summer comes.

The main thing to do when it comes to keeping your yard free of mosquitoes is to keep water under control around your home.  They love places that provide them with standing or slowly-running water.  This is where the mosquitoes will lay their eggs which will soon further your problem.

One of the main areas to pay attention to is the gutters around your home.  Make sure none of them have clogged up.  If a lot of leaves have fallen in your gutters, then it will be very easy for them to clog up.  Check the downspouts too, since they will cause problems sometimes too.

After exiting the gutters, water is supposed to drain well away from your home.  If it simply accumulates, then you will have a problem.  Hopefully, the area around your home is properly sloped so you will not have to deal with that.  In some cases, you may need to add an extension onto the downspouts.

Avoid leaving old containers lying around your yard too, since they can lead to mosquito problems this summer.  Whenever it rains, the water will collect in these containers if they are sitting upright.  If you have pieces of pottery or garbage can lids lying around your yard, make sure you dump the water out of them on a regular basis.  Do not allow the water in birdbaths get too old either.

Even your garbage can or recycling container can accumulate water after it rains.  Mosquitoes would set up shop there too.  To prevent this, you could drill a few holes in the bottom of these containers.  Do not make the mistake of drilling the holes in the sides since water will still accumulate at the bottom of the container.
