7 Teeth Cleaning Tips Only Dentists Seem To Know

Dentists specialize in tooth care, but most of us know little about how to properly care for our teeth and our gums. Here are 7 little-known facts about dental care that very few people know outside of the dental profession.

How do dentists keep your teeth so shiny and white? They can do this because they're experts in the field. Here are 7 tips they can tell you to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

1. Hydrogen Peroxide and Getting Rid of Bacteria in the Mouth

Bacteria in the mouth are one of the main causes of bad breath. If you want to get rid of infection-causing bacteria and the resulting side effects then you can rinse your mouth with hydrogen peroxide to get rid of it. The hydrogen peroxide should be mixed with water and it should only be 3% because too much can hurt. Once you have mixed the water with this chemical you should keep it in your mouth for at least a minute before spitting it out. Make sure that you do not swallow any of it.

2. Choose Waxed Floss

Waxed floss is easier to use than your average floss and this makes it easier to get you in the mood for dental hygiene. If you are having trouble with the floss you are using then you should switch to one that is more suitable for the job.

3. Watching TV Promotes Cleaner Teeth

Most people should be brushing their teeth for about 2 to 3 minutes but many people rarely take this much time to make sure that their teeth and gums are sparkling clean. If you are struggling to brush through this time then why not multitask? Dentists recommend that you should watch some TV or listen to the radio while you brush so that the process is made easier for you and your teeth benefit from it in the long run.

4. Angles VS Straight Bristles

We have all seen the ads on television that advocate one type of bristle over another but is one really better than the other? Dentists say no because it is not about the type of bristles themselves but the technique that you use to brush your teeth.

5. Rinsing with Mint

Rinsing your mouth out with mint will help to prevent infections from occurring and it will keep your breath fresh. The taste of the mint is great and it will not burn like regular mouth washes do.

6. Fruits and the Sugar They Contain

Children are usually told to substitute sweets with fruit and fruit juices but what many people do not realize is that fruits and their juices contain high amounts of natural sugars. In order to combat the damage they can do to your teeth, you need to make sure that brushing and flossing occur on a regular basis.

7. Excessive Brushing Can Harm Your Teeth

Dentists say that excessive brushing can wear away the enamel on your teeth and this could result in breaking or cracking teeth. Brushing your teeth too many times a day is not healthy for you and you should limit yourself to brushing 3 times a day at most. Brushing your teeth with excessive force can also endanger your teeth and gums, so be gentle!

If you need more tips like these, trips to see dentists are the best ways to get an education. Pick their brain and find out what you need to do to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
