Attending Yoga Classes For The First Time? What Will You Need?
If you're new to yoga classes, you may not be sure exactly what you need to bring to the lesson. Although your specific needs will vary depending on your studio (which means you should ask your instru...
What Clothes To Wear To Yoga Classes
Your clothing is important, but that doesn't mean you need to go out and spend a lot of money on the latest gear. Rather, it's a good idea to go to stores that are known for affordable clothing to get your gear, especially at first. Once you've determined that you want to stick with your lessons, you can move on to more expensive clothing if you wish. However, it's not necessary to purchase expensive clothing.
Look for clothing that's fitted and not too loose. Pants and shirts that are loose fitting, rather then fitted can cause problems when you try to do upside down poses. This doesn't mean that clothing needs to be skintight -- choose the style of clothing that is the most comfortable and allows you to move freely.
Keep Your Hair Back With A Good Fitting Headband
If your hair is long, you'll want to keep it pulled tightly back. If your hair is mostly one length, you can probably use just a simple hair tie to pull it back. However, if your hairstyle includes layers or bangs, you'll probably want a good fitting headband to keep your hair off your face during the more complicated poses. Look for one with a no-slip guarantee so you're not constantly adjusting it during your workout.
Don't Forget The Mat, Towel And Water
You'll also need a quality mat. These mats can be purchased in a number of different stores, including department stores, sporting goods stores and yoga studios. Many will come with a simple Velcro strap to keep the mat tightly rolled up, but some students prefer to purchase a carrying bag to make toting the mat to and from class easier.
A class can be quite strenuous and many students are surprised to find out just how much they will sweat. A small towel to wipe your face and hands will come in handy, as will a bottle full of water. It's easy to get dehydrated when exercising and these classes are no exception so having water nearby can help keep you healthy and hydrated.
What Not To Bring
Most people prefer to take their yoga classes barefoot, so you won't need any shoes. However, your feet may get chilly during the cool down portion of your workout so some students choose to bring along a pair of socks.
Additionally, you should leave your phone outside of the room. Many people use yoga classes for relaxation, as well as fitness, which can mean that a phone's text message, email alerts and phone calls can be quite distracting.
Yoga classes are excellent forms of exercise. If you've never taken one, contact a local studio and ask if they have any beginner classes. Yoga enthusiasts agree that one class is enough to get you hooked so you might be shocked at how much you enjoy it.
