Along with physical development, special care and attention to each body part of the baby is essential. It becomes very necessary to keep a check on the sensatory organs and their proper functioning. Most babies undergo testing for blindness, dumbness and deafness.
The testing for deafness is done as a result of the parents and doctors’ doubts regarding the baby’s hearing concerns. It has been studied that knowledge of deafness at an early stage can be helpful to solve the problem to some extend.
Baby’s hearing concerns should be handled with great care and proper treatment. Many times the middle ear is filled due to some fluid and can make the child suffer from temporary hearing loose. This may also effect in the development of language and speech. The condition that is the cause of middle ear infection is chronic serous otitis or the otitis with effusion. Baby’s hearing concerns can be noticed and examined if the baby cries for longer period. When the baby is not responding to certain voice or sounds or suffering from cold and cough for a longer time proper treatment should be provided. Hearing concerns for the baby is a very typical and sensitive matter, as the ears of the baby are very sensitive and should not be exposed to loud noise. Some easy tips can overcome baby’s hearing concerns. Singing nursery rhymes and playing light music for the child is considered to be useful. The sound of moving trains, toys, wind chimes, wall clock should be brought to the notice of the baby. The more variety of sound one provides to the baby the better is the development of sense of hearing and better the impact. The baby will soon remember the sounds and learn various things from it. Reading out to the baby irrespective of the age will help the baby to develop cadence for the language in the ear. Infact using different voices, varying pitch, delivering in a dramatically manner will create more interest for the baby. With more talks and sounds, more the baby gets to learn new words. Soon the baby starts to turn his head towards the sound coming. Later, that is the older infants also try imitating the sounds when they observe lips moving of the adults. Baby’s hearing should be made a point of concern if certain development in hearing of the baby is not noticed with age. When the baby is of three months he should be able to startle due to the noise. When the baby turns four to six moths he should be called by the name. The baby should be able to understand and hear that his name is been called out. Between six to ten moths the baby should be able to respond the telephone ring or the doorbell. In the age group of ten to fifteen month if the baby is not able to recognize the things one calls like the book, some animal pictures, or family members by names or some object name than there are chances the baby is not able to hear. Due care should be taken and regular check ups should be held to regulate baby’s hearing concerns.
