Basis for Ayurvedic Treatment for Stress

A surge in the number of patients who are suffering terribly due to excessive stress makes it a hot topic of discussion in the medical circle. Ayurvedic remedies for stress is slow and consistent, thus aiming to cure the root of the problem.

We all experience stress in our life. The problem of stress is not new. It has been plaguing mankind for generations. A surge in the number of patients who are suffering terribly due to excessive stress makes it a hot topic of discussion in the medical circle. Ayurvedic medicine for stress is truly beneficial as it focuses on solving the problem from its roots.

In Ayurvedic Treatment, it is commonly believed that there are three guns in a person, namely ‘sattva’ (knowledge, purity), ‘rajas’ (action, passion) and ‘tamas’ (inertia, ignorance). Eliminating stress in our day to day life is all about maintaining a balance between these three guns. In order to eliminate stress, it is important to have adequate sleep, eat glutton free foods, exercise daily and meditate in order to understand your own problems.

According to Ayurveda, the problem of stress is caused when the guna of ‘sattva’ takes a back seat and ‘rajas’ or ‘tamas’ takes over our mind and body. When the state of ‘sattva’ decreases, a person loses his clarity of mind, determination and ability to discriminate the right from the wrong and the other two gun’s namely ‘tamas’ and ‘rajas’ takes over, which leads to stress. When a person has a high state of ‘sattva’, he can handle stress in a better way. He is usually calm, thoughtful and patient in his behaviour towards himself and others. The opposite of this state leads to hopelessness, despair, fear, anxiety and most importantly stress.

In order to increase the influence of ‘sattva’ and reduce the negative effects of stress, take a note that ayurvedic treatment for stress does not promise any short-term solution. It might take several weeks to several months to experience some changes, however, the changes would be sustainable.

Here are some Ayurvedic tips which can improve your overall life and reduce stress

Establish a Balance in your life

Modern existence is like living in a web of expectations from society, family and our place of work. Running after external goals can be very tiring at times. If you wish to restore your inner balance, take some time out and try to meditate in a peaceful place. The emotions which you experience during the process of meditation would tell you a lot about your mental condition. If you feel less in sync with your own self, perhaps it’s time for you to slow down and restore your inner balance.

Take Adequate Rest

Taking rest always does not mean going for a long vacation. You can always delegate some not so important work to your juniors and prioritise your work schedule. Learn the art of delegation, which would help you to save some time and enjoy a short break during working hours.

Watch What You Eat

In Ayurveda, food plays a very big role in your overall welfare. Fresh food like fruits and vegetables are said to increase the guna of ‘sattva’. Any artificial or processed food like coffee, fried items, liquor or sugary products is believed to lead to an increase in ‘rajas’ or ‘tamas’. Ayurveda strongly advocates a vegan way of life. Foods like meat or egg are said to be detrimental for the mind since they contain no life energy. Watching your diet is a great way of ensuring that you enjoy a healthy mind and body.

Get Adequate Sleep

A lot of problem in the body is caused by sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation can cause problems like indigestion, irritation, and fatigue which contribute to stress in a big way. Having a sound sleep without the help of drugs can cure a lot of mental problems. If you have trouble falling asleep you can try listening to light music or taking a walk post dinner. Alternatively, you can also use aroma oil or incense sticks in your bedroom which can create a balance in your body. If these remedies don’t work, you can check out some Ayurvedic herbs like Ashwagandha which can help you to rest without any side effect.
