Everyone needs to feel comfortable enough with their doctor that they can discuss absolutely anything that they want to. If you don't feel that comfortable then that means a lot.

The main reason that you want an OB/GYN that you are comfortable with is because you need to be able to talk to them. The things that you would discuss are very personal and intimate. These types of doctors hear all the gory details about your sexual practices, whether you have had a miscarriage or abortion and if you use protection like you should. They will be the person that tell you that you have contacted a STD or that you are going to be a mother. A good relationship is very important.

Some of the biggest complaints that patient's have about their doctors are not listening, in a hurry, and not courteous. If you are dealing with a doctor who is rushing out of the room before you can say your peace then it is probably time to move on. When the doctor is in the room with you they should seem as if there is not another person in the office, giving you their personalized and full attention the entire visit. If they are hurrying through your visit then perhaps having a few less patients would be a better solution to help keep them on track.

By far one of the things that makes women uncomfortable with their OB/Gyn is when they feel as if the doctor is reacting poorly to their sexual history. For many women this is a sure sign that you and your OB are not on the same page. Another issue that most women find difficult to deal with is when the doctor fails to read the admittance forms before entering the room and begins to ask questions or confuse facts from this form.

If you have decided that it is time to move on, whether for one of the above listed reasons or something completely different then you have really two choices as to how to handle the breakup. On one hand you can arrange an appointment and sit down, letting the doctor know that you are moving on and the reasons behind that decision. This can help the doctor to understand what issues they may need to address in their dealings with other patients; however this should be done in a very non-confrontational way. And of course the other option is to very simply just stop going in which is the method that many choose very simply because it doesn't not require a face to face meeting or any level of confrontation at all. No matter which method of breaking up you choose, if you are not comfortable with your OB/Gyn then it is time to move on.
