In the past,Breast Augmentation: Customized Surgery Articles women who were not happy with their breast size resorted to using breast creams or bra padding in an attempt to temporarily increase their bust size. Unfortunately, breast creams are not proven to actually work, and bra padding looks unnatural. Fortunately, breast augmentations has evolved into both a safe and affordable alternative to these unproven and unnatural breast enhancement methods.

What was once a dangerous and risky procedure has turned into a safe and permanent method for increasing the size of the breasts. Furthermore, plastic surgeons have developed breast augmentation to include many different options, which allows each individual patient to cater the procedure to their specific desired results. One such option is the choice between silicone or saline solution implants. Although both of these options will have the same overall effect, there are some differences between the two that many women will appreciate more than the other. For instance, silicone implants are said to look and feel more natural than saline implants.

There is some added responsibility that comes with choosing silicone. Unlike saline, silicone is a solution that cannot be absorbed by the body in the event of a rupture. A saline implant rupture is more obvious because the breast will begin to look deflated; this is a result of the body absorbing the saline solution. Therefore, patients who have opted for silicone must undergo a yearly MRI to detect any leaks. Otherwise, ruptured silicone implants can go unnoticed for years and adversely affect the patient's health if the silicone is allowed to travel to other parts of the body. Studies have shown that women who have reported a tear in their silicone implants are more likely to experience painful and debilitating diseases, such as fibromyalgia.

Plastic surgeons have also developed techniques in making incisions, which reduces visible scarring and the likelihood of experiencing complications later in life. This is especially helpful for women who intended to have children later, or simply want to avoid the embarrassment of surgical scars. Silicone implants tend to cause more scarring because they come pre-filled, which means the surgeon must make a large enough incision to properly place a pre-filled implant. Additionally, some women have complained of numbness in the areola or nipples, which makes breast-feeding difficult. Luckily, surgeons have developed basic incision techniques that make it much easier to hide the larger scarring, and avoid nerve damage to the nipples and areola.

Breast augmentation in the past was very basic, and risky. However, with developments in plastic surgery, it is now possible to custom-design your breast augmentation with less risk, and better results.
