You have decided to have breast augmentation and are really excited about the changes that the procedure will bring to your body. You have thought about having the operation for some time now and feel confident that the right time has come to get implants. You also can afford the implants now and you are ready to book the date for the cosmetic surgery.

There is still one question that needs to be answered about breast augmentation. The question is- should you decide to be augmented with saline implants or silicone implants? This is a question that you should discuss with the surgeon who will be performing your breast augmentation operation. It is also something that you should educate yourself on beforehand.

When it comes to breast augmentation many cosmetic surgeons believe that silicone implants look and feel more like natural breasts than saline ones do. The reason for this is because the gel that makes up the silicone implants resembles the texture of the tissue that a natural breast is made of. This is one reason why silicone may be the right choice for you.

On the other hand saline implants for augmentation have some advantages over the implants that are made of a silicone gel. Both can ruptures inside the bosom. When the silicone ones rupture it is less obvious and sometimes even the plastic surgery patient is not immediately aware of it. When the saline ones suffer a rupture in the body deflation takes place and this is very easy for the patient to see.

When a rupture takes place to the implants made of silicone the breast may continue to look the same as it did when the implant was surgically placed in the chest. The reason for this is because the gel can slowly leak into other regions around the breast and it can go practically unnoticed because the leak is small and takes place gradually.

It is more problematic for the plastic doctor to replace a silicone implant that has ruptured than it is to fix an implant made of saline. When it comes to breast augmentation the silicone gel implants are more likely to deflate and they are also more prone to the condition known as capsular contracture than are their saline counterparts.

If you decide to go with saline-filled implants for your breast enlargement surgery then it is worthwhile to know that the shell of the implants is made of a silicone rubber material. It is inflated to the size that the patient wants and then is filled with sterile saline. The two kinds of saline implants used for enlargement operations include the fixed volume implant and the adjustable volume implant.

Silicone implants are also encased in a shell that is made of a silicone rubber substance. They are filled with a fixed percentage of the silicone gel before being inserted into the chest of the patient. The manufacturing port of the silicone implant features a patch that carefully covers over it. Implants made of silicone come in different shapes,Breast Augmentation - Saline or Silicone Implants?
