The safety of the procedure and the silicone filled sacs are basically very high. There is little risk of leaking and rupturing when handled well and with care over the years. In spite of this, the surgeon who handled the operation will also recommend a follow up checkup immediately after the procedure. This will help to determine if all is well. Doctors also ask their patients to return for regular mammograms and checkups over the course of ten years. Some experts may actually recommend changing the breast implants after ten years in order to guarantee safety of the patient.
