Breast lifts may be performed as a solo operation or as a dual procedure with the addition of implants. If implants are utilized, the additional step is referred to as an augmentation. Implants add fullness to a woman’s bustline in addition to the lift that a mastopexy provides. Implants may be filled with saline solution or silicone. There are pros and cons to each and the options are best discussed with the plastic surgeon. Scars will be permanent but they will greatly fade over time. Usually by six months to a year, they will be barely noticeable. A woman should realize, however, that everyone’s scarring tendencies are unique and somewhat unpredictable. When making a decision to have a breast lift, a patient must weigh the options in order to decide whether she would rather have scar-free saggy bosoms or perky ones with scars.
