EDISON,Chin Augmentation + Rhinoplasty by Plastic Surgeon in NJ Articles NJ- Having an oversized nose or small chin is common. But keeping them does not have to be.Associates in Plastic Surgery's Dr. Andrew Miller is no stranger to improving these features."Rhinoplasty and chin augmentation provide dramatic improvement of the face," says Miller, a wrinkle removal expert. "However, what most patients seeking these individual procedures forget is that it's often a combination of both that's required to achieve optimal results."Why is that? The reason someone with a big nose would require chin augmentation and someone with a small chin would require rhinoplasty is to achieve balance. When a feature appears large, sometimes it's because a different feature is too small and causing the other to appear larger than it actually is.But why don't patients see an imbalance in the first place? For one, the imbalance may not be as noticeable when viewed head on, which is how people see themselves the most. This is especially true with a chin that's underdeveloped, which is better seen from a side view.Or, it may just be stubbornness."Once a patient decides what they don't like about themselves is a certain feature, it's hard to convince them that it may be another that's causing their dislike," says Miller. "However, once they give alternate causes some unbiased consideration, they're shocked they never noticed."How does someone know if their chin augmentation would benefit from the addition of rhinoplasty or vice versa? Most with major profile discrepancies would benefit from a combination of both procedures. When a nose is so large or a chin so small that severe alterations are required to reach the result a patient is going for, it's best to consider if enhancing another would reduce the amount of alterations to be done to the prominent feature."My goal is to help my patients look better, not drastically different," says Miller. "Any time I can perform minor enhancement of two features as opposed to major enhancement of one, I feel the results look better and better please my patients."It can be disappointing for a patient to learn that they would benefit from a combination of procedures when they were planning on just one. But, no worries. Cosmetic options such as fillers can be used to somewhat replicate the results of the procedure they aren't ready to commit to.Likewise, if they don't see the benefit of adding a suggested procedure, they shouldn't feel pressured to have it. Following the chosen procedure, such as rhinoplasty, they can have their surgeon perform chin augmentation using a filler such as Juvederm. The results will not be permanent or as drastic as surgery, but will give them an idea of the improvement surgery could provide.
