Yogurt, even in small amounts, can reduce levels of hydrogen sulfide from the mouth. Hydrogen sulfide has long been known as one of the primary culprits behind bad breath. Getting rid of that, however, is just one of yogurt’s benefits. Because a good yogurt is also high in vitamin D, it can help create an inhospitable habitat for the growth of halitosis causing bacteria. Fibrous vegetables and fruits are your friend when it comes to getting rid of the agents behind bad breath. Why are they so effective? Well, anything that can get your salivary juices flowing will help remove food particles from your teeth. These food particles, if left alone, will begin to break down slowly, providing the perfect environment for bacteria. This, in turn, can lead to an unpleasant smell. Eating fruits and vegetables gets the saliva going without contributing further to the problem. Almost all dentists recommend a healthy amount of fruits and vegetables in your diet anyway, as they are so much more preferable than sugary substitutes.
