Adequate Moisture

Adequate moisture is essential for skin health. Skin that is very dry loses its elasticity and plumpness, causing sagging and wrinkling. When people fail to drink enough water, their bodies start to prioritize water usage. This means that their vital organs have top priority while their skin goes without. Any dermatologist will recommend that his or her patients drink a minimum of eight glasses of water daily for this reason. Investing in a home humidifier can also be a good idea because indoor air is often dry. A humidifier will hydrate skin from the outside, resulting in more immediate benefits.

Say No to Tobacco

Smoking is not only damaging to things like fabrics and home interiors but also to skin. Recent scientific studies demonstrated that the chemicals in cigarette smoke cause skin to develop deep wrinkles and appear leathery and haggard. Furthermore, it was found that the more a person smoked, the more dramatic the effects were. Quitting smoking will allow skin a chance to heal itself and can help prevent more wrinkles from developing.

Vitamin C

Of all the nutrients that are good for skin, vitamin C is one of the best. This is because it is used by the body to produce collagen, skin's most important building block. Without adequate vitamin C intake, and therefore collagen production, skin will become thin, weak and saggy, resulting in wrinkles. The vitamin is also necessary for skin healing and can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles that are already present.

Zinc

Zinc is another nutrient that is important for skin health and repair. This is why it is so often found in products such as dandruff shampoo, diaper rash ointment and sunscreen. Zinc nourishes the skin and helps its cells to regenerate, which may result in diminished wrinkles over time.

Reduce Chemical Exposure

While it is impossible to prevent all exposure to skin-damaging chemicals, it is possible to minimize skin's exposure to many of them. Some of the common chemicals that people should watch out for include ammonia, silicone, sulfates, parabens and alcohol. Each of these chemicals can, shockingly, be found in products such as shampoos, makeup, lotions and body washes. Even chlorine, which is found in tap water, causes significant damage to skin by drying it and stripping it of nutrients.
