Varicose veins and spider veins are commonly seen in people over the age of thirty and more commonly occur in women. Spider veins are a common condition and most people get treatment for spider vein for cosmetic reasons. However, varicose vein is a different thing as it is a serious condition and needs special treatment as soon as it is diagnosed, otherwise, complications can occur resulting in more serious ailments. There are various types of vein procedures available for an individual to choose from, but it depends on the severity of the condition of the affected person.
For small varicose vein and spider vein treatment, sclerotherapy treatment can work wonders. It is a non-surgical treatment that involves injecting a saline or detergent like solution into the vein, causing the lining of the vein wall to swell, stick together and ultimately seal shut. Sclerotherapy is minimally invasive and does not require any anesthesia. However, it may have to be performed a number of times to achieve the desired result.
Another vein procedure is laser therapy wherein the affected varicose vein or spider vein is completely destroyed by sending a strong beam of light onto the vein. This is a completely non-invasive procedure and lasts for about fifteen to twenty minutes. Phlebectomy is another vein procedure involving stab incisions which are made on the skin to allow a tool to be connected to the varicose vein. The vein is then pulled until it breaks and then it is removed in pieces. This procedure is done under local anesthesia but is still painful. One of the most common vein procedure is vein ligation and stripping which is an invasive procedure making an incision on the vein and then tying it. In the event the vein is heavily damaged it is completely removed by stripping.
