Effective Acne Treatment

Acne can become a real problem if case it stays to be untreated or improperly cured. It could leave permanent  scars and marks on the skin, which may serve as reminders about the discomfort and distress caused by experiencing this irritable skin disorder.

It could leave permanent  scars and marks on the skin, which may serve as reminders about the discomfort and distress caused by experiencing this irritable skin disorder.  Unfortunately, acne is among the most prevalent forms of skin problems that may affect just anybody at any age.  So, it is very important to cure acne on its early stage and try to prevent its developments.

In order to minimize the effect of acne, you can follow some self-care step given below:

• Clean your skin gently with a mild, non-drying soap. Remove all dirt or make-up once or twice a day, including after exercising.
• Wash your hair with a shampoo daily, especially if it's oily. Comb or pull your hair back to keep the hair out of your face. Do not wear tight headbands.
• Try not to squeeze, scratch, pick, or rub the pimples. Although it might be tempting to do this, it can result in scarring and skin infections.
• Do not touch your face with your hands or fingers.
• Avoid fatty cosmetics or creams, instead use water-based or "non-comedogenic" products. Remove make-up at night.

In case it doesn’t clear up the blemishes to an acceptable level, over-the-counter acne medications are required. These creams and lotions are applied directly to the skin and contain benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid. They kill bacteria, dry up the oil, and cause the skin to peel.

If the pimples are still a problem, a dermatologist can prescribe stronger medications and discuss other options with you.

Prescription medicines include:

• Oral antibiotics (taken by mouth) such as minocycline, doxycycline, and tetracycline
• Topical antibiotics (applied to the skin) such as clindamycin or erythromycin
• Retinoic acid cream or gel (Retin-A) and isotretinoin pills (Accutane) -- pregnant women and sexually active adolescent females should NOT take Accutane, as it causes severe birth defects; Women taking Accutane should use two forms of birth control before starting the drug
• Prescription formulas of benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, resorcinol, salicylic acid

Sometimes, birth control pills can help clear up acne, however, there are cases when they may make it only worse.

A small amount of sun exposure may improve acne. However, excessive exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet rays is not suggested as a treatment because it may increase the risk of getting skin cancer.

It is also recommended to use chemical skin peeling, removal of scars by dermabrasion, laser resurfacing,  subcision or removal or drainage of cysts.

However, not all people could take advantage of those medical treatments, as they are very costly. If you could take care of and treat your acne well, it will be better so that scarring, marking and permanent discoloration could be effectively prevented.
