Effective Ayurvedic Treatment for Menopause

Generally women begin experiencing menopause between the ages of 40 and 50 and after the last menstruation. The most commonly seen symptoms are depression, loss of self esteem, hot flashes, sweats and frequent mood changes that occur along with the lowering levels of estrogen in the body.

Different people have their own considerations about this period. For example, it is considered as a time of decline in the west while it also brings wisdom in many cultures.

Ayurveda is considered as the oldest medicinal system developed in Indian continent and now widely used by people living in foreign countries. This concept is followed by a large number of people from several thousand years. The ayurvedic treatment for menopause is based on the use of plants and herbs that are meant to bring instant relief in several ailments.

Although, it is practiced widely but it is advised to consult an experienced practitioner before relying on ayurvedic treatment for menopause.  Ayurveda defines that our body is made of five universal elements – fire, air, space, water and earth, with each of us having a mind-body profile called a ‘dosha’. There are mainly three doshas – vata, pitta and kapha and each is a combination of elements with one dominating element.

Vata dosha types have symptoms like nervousness, anxiety, panic, mood swings and insomnia. It is advised to eat warm, regular meals, use fennel and cumin seed spices, avoid sugar drinks, coffee and other stimulants.

Pitta dosha types symptoms include hot flashes, nightly sweats, heavy periods, excessive bleeding and irritation. In such cases, consume cooling food like melons and cucumbers, avoid hot, spicy food and alcohol, and drink a lot of water and fresh juices.
