Facelift: 5 Critical Questions, Answered

The facelift is popular and relatively inexpensive. While not the only way to maintain a youthful appearance, it certainly helps.

Of all the cosmetic surgery procedures available, the facelift is probably the most cost-effective and age-defying surgical procedure that exists. With innovative techniques and faster recovery times, the facelift continues to gain popularity and social acceptance. There are many questions that are frequently asked regarding facial cosmetic surgery such as: Why do people (primarily women) get facelifts in the first place? Are they really necessary to maintain a youthful appearance? Will it break the bank if I have this done? How should I select a physician? Will everyone know, or will I look natural?

Many women opt for a facelift because they want to reduce wrinkles and facial sagging – essentially “lift” their face to a younger, more vibrant state. However, some women choose the facelift to repair sun damage, or remove excess skin after dramatic weight loss. Still others are trying to reverse the effects of decades of poor skin care. Whatever the reason, many women are finding that this procedure boosts their self confidence and improves their overall outlook on life.

Facelifts are not necessarily imperative in order to maintain a youthful appearance. Genetics and lifestyle are big contributors to how skin looks as you age, so some women may never feel as though they need to have cosmetic surgery to improve the look of their face. There are some though that have wrinkles, creases and sagging skin no matter how well they cared for themselves over the years.

Whether or not you can afford to have cosmetic surgery depends on your budget constraints. Prices vary greatly from one region to the next, but you can expect to spend somewhere between $7,000 and $15,000 for this type of cosmetic surgery. Keep in mind that while insurance does not cover facelifts, many doctors and facilities do offer financing that make this more affordable. Also, cost factors depend on how extensive the procedure is. A basic facelift will obviously be less expensive than one with chin or cheek implants.

When it comes to selecting a physician, you can ask your friends and family for referrals. They may be aware of or familiar with a particular doctor and can point you in his direction. Also, your primary doctor may be able to suggest a surgical facility and can provide resources for checking the qualifications of cosmetic surgeons. Whatever you do, don’t just pick a name out of a phone book and make your decision based on a little yellow ad. Be sure to do your homework and make sure the doctor has the appropriate credentials and a spotless track record. You don’t want to become another black mark on an already spotty past.

The next time you are out and about and you see an incredibly radiant woman, ask yourself if she has good genes or a great surgeon. You may not be able to tell the difference. Scars are easily hidden in hair lines and you may find that most of your friends will notice something is differentScience Articles, but not be able to put their finger on it.
