Finding Dr. Right

Finding a new doctor can be difficult. Here are some ways doctor reviews can help.

If you’ve ever had a really good doctor you probably recommended them to everyone you knew. And by the same token if you’ve ever had a bad doctor you probably warned total strangers on the bus to not use them! So when it comes to finding a good doctor most people agree that a word of mouth referral is the best way to find a doctor. Of course this can be hard to do if you’re new to an area where you don’t know anyone or you need a specialist. If you don’t have a referral from a friend or co worker you probably do what most people do- use the phone book. The phone book can be a good resource for a lot of things but it doesn’t really help you find a doctor that has been reviewed and recommended by your friends or family. Having a doctor’s review is like having a movie review. It tells you what to expect, who to avoid and who to use in your area. This can help save you a lot of time and hassle in the long run and help guide you to a physician that you will be a good fit with.

A consumer driven web site called Angie’ list has taken heed to this need and expanded their reviews beyond just the normal services that people use everyday like a dry cleaners or day care, to include a doctor’s review online. Now no matter where you live or what kind of doctor you need to find, there is a resource available to help you.

Doctor reviews online are a good resource to find a doctor or even to verify a recommendation from a friend. Reviews are written by patients who give the doctor a grade from A to F, just like in school. The overall doctor rating is dependent upon all reviews so just having a few bad reviews won’t necessarily make a good doctor lose a high rating.

It is a good idea to read a few reviews and not just go by the overall grade to make sure that the doctor you pick is a good match for you. LocationArticle Submission, office hours and types of insurance they take or don’t take are all factors that may not come into play with their overall grade but may be mentioned in the written review.
Take advantage of the online format to find a doctor so you will know what to expect before you are caught off guard in the examination room. If you wouldn’t go to a movie without reading the reviews don’t go the doctor without reading the reviews either!
