Getting Back To Work After Your Face Lift

A face lift can really change your life for the better. You can use it to accentuate the features you like, diminish the ones you don't like, and take years off your life. Once you're all done with the surgery, it's time to get back into the swing of things.

What You Should Expect After Your Face Lift

The surgery is quick, but the recovery can take some time. Actually, the recovery time is not so terribly long, but it's important that you understand you'll have to take it easy. Don't try to rush things, or else you may end up with complications.

For a day or two, you'll look like The Mummy. Your doctor will wrap you in bandages and headgear, and may give you a tube to help with draining. During this time, you'll want to stay home so that you don't scare people! The headgear comes off in a day or so, and then you've still got a way to go.

Pain, Swelling And Numbness

You may experience some pain, swelling, bruising or numbness. The pain will be minimal, and your doctor will give you some good drugs to help with it. Follow the directions carefully and don't operate any motor vehicles.

Swelling and numbness are a natural part of recovery from a face lift. These will not be major, but they will persist for awhile. Don't worry about it unless they get worse instead of better. If the swelling doesn't start to go down noticeably in a few days, contact your doctor.

One major thing that you can do to help with pain, swelling and bruising is to stay still. Moving around a lot considerably irritates your healing face, and it could cause problems. Rent some good movies and take up residence on the couch for a while.

You And Your Doctor Will Get To Really Know Each Other

Recovery can take anywhere from one week to several weeks, depending on the type of operation done. Endoscopic face lift, which uses a small camera to minimize incisions, will give you a much easier recovery time. In general, you can expect to be back to work in a week or so after your surgery and totally back to normal in about a month.

During the next few weeks, you'll have some follow-up appointments with the surgeon. Some of these will be for removing stitches and sutures. For the most part, your surgeon will just want to check in with you and make sure things are healing like they should be.
