This preliminary assessment of patients involves certain tests which as part of medical investigation they have to undergo. These tests are of paramount importance as they help the doctors treating the addicts to be well acquainted with physical problems if they have any. In fact, initial checkups are very important. 

After the initial checkups, the most important thing that an addict undergoes is the motivational intervention. It is something that you cannot dispense with. This is all because of the fact that at times addicts who come to rehabilitation centre refuses to undergo the treatment and situation calls for some kind of intervention by the rehab authorities, which is essentially a motivational approach and may necessitate the participation of their families also. After this comes the detoxification process. Actually addicts have the accumulation of toxins in their body over a period of time. Therefore, detoxification becomes essential for the betterment of the overall of the addicts.

Now the final stage of the drug rehabilitation programme is aftercare program. Without the aftercare program, a drug rehabilitation program is almost incomplete. It goes a long way in helping the patients avoid the recurrence of urges of taking drugs through and through. Basically, aftercare program comprises of some particular techniques, therapies, and the way they live their life.
