How much are These Braces Going to Cost?

How the different types of braces work and how much it will cost to straighten your child's teeth.

Sometimes as your child grows and gets his adult teeth, it becomes obvious immediately that he will need to have them corrected in the future. This is usually done through the use of braces, which are either ceramic or metal devices that help correct a person's teeth alignment. There are many types of bite problems. These include cross bites, deep bites, open bites, over bites and other types of crooked teeth. Sometimes other appliances are needed in addition to aid in the proper movement of the teeth.

There are many types of orthodontic appliances that help with the straightening of teeth. Some of these are:
• Invisalign - clear alignment appliances that are inserted on your teeth after the dentist has made a mold of them and sent them to the lab so that special appliances can be made that fit your teeth properly. This process usually takes about two weeks. These invisible aligners are rarely seen by others and are actually fairly comfortable when they fit properly, except when you get new aligners fitted every few weeks.
• Invisible braces - aligners that are placed on the back of your teeth to move the teeth. Like invisalign, these are usually invisible to others.
• Clear braces - also known as ceramic braces, appear clear to others, other than the wires and bands that pull the teeth and move them. Sometimes people choose to get them tinted different colors to give them a sense of personality.
• Orthodontic Braces - the most common form of braces. These are metal brackets with wires and rubber bands.

Why would your child need to have his teeth corrected? Because a smile is who he is, straighter teeth will help him impress others better the first time they meet him. Correcting your child's bite problems earlier will help them have healthier gums and teeth, a wider and happier smile, and a higher level of confidence in public speaking and job interviews. It will also lead to the improvement of their overall health because the teeth will be easier to clean and the child will have a lower stress level. If their teeth are not treated properly from an early age, it could lead to gum tissue problems later in life. In the short run, it is cheaper to have the correction done now than to have the problems later.

The length of time that your child will wear the appliances depends on the amount of correction that is needed. Sometimes to get the teeth straightened properly he will need to get some teeth removed. Then he will wear regular braces for up to two years. With other methods such as invisalign, the treatment is more comfortable, shorter, and usually does not require the removal of any teeth.

How much will these braces cost? This depends on the type of appliances that you choose for your child. The average cost is between $3,800 and $8,000, depending on your needs and where you live. Most of the time, treatment is covered by your insurance and most orthodontists do offer financing to help you cover the cost of your investment. The cost of the invisalign treatment is roughly the same as the regular bracket and wires.

It may seem expensive to correct your child's teeth, but keep in mind that when you make that decision you are investing in his self-esteem, success, and overall future.
